My work draws inspiration from the mythical beauty of a rural Irish upbringing. I was born in County Wexford, on the South East coast of Ireland. I studied Art & design at the Regional Techincal College in Galway before moving to Bingen in Germany in 1996, where I live with my husband and two children.
Places, dreams, poetry and nature serve as the central themes of my work. I work predominantly with oil on canvas, utilizing photography as a medium to preserve location and atmosphere, seeking to reinterpret them through paint. In recent years, I have delved into the exploration of monotypes on gelatin, drawn to the spontaneity and unpredictability of the process. Each print is a unique expression, reflecting the energy and emotion of the moment. Some resultant prints undergo further treatment with oil paint, blurring the lines between print-making and painting, yielding a collage-like aesthetic. This exploration has led to an ongoing series entitled Personae, initiated in 2020, drawing inspiration from Greek mythology and the poetry of a close collaborator, the Irish poet Ruth Timmins. This collaborative process is characterised by reciprocal inspiration between visual imagery and language, producing to date two illustrated poetry books, Night Beside the Water and Cora Sway's Bed.

In addition to my studio practice, I teach art courses for children in several schools around my area and am also active in our local museum with various projects and workshops. I am passionate about nurturing the creativity of the next generation, striving to instill the same sense of wonder and curiosity that fuels my own artistic practice. Together, we explore the limitless possibilities of art, experimenting with a wide range of materials and techniques to unlock their creative potential.
